Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology was formerly known as Nanjing Meteorology University. It was founded in 1960. It is the first Meteorological university in China. Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology is now a high-level research-based university with strong faculty, distinctive academic characteristics, first-class education quality, and scientific research level, and great influence in the world.

NUIST is a national-level key university co-constructed by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and the China Meteorological Administration (CMA).
