In this video, I give a detailed look at my process of re-wiring my old 1987 JC Whitney 4'x8' utility trailer, which seems to be exactly the same thing as what Harbor Freight sells as their 4x8' light utility trailer these days. Accordingly, it might be beneficial to people building the Harbor Freight trailer kit, and wanting to make a better job of it.

I am using a higher grade of cable than what comes with the kit, and I also use a more robust method of routing and attaching the cables to the trailer frame, than what Harbor Freight recommends.

I use no special electrical connectors for the necessary splices in the wiring; I strip and twist the wires to be connected, melt some solder into the twisted area, and insulate using heat shrink tubing, followed by wrapping with electrical tape for extra strength and strain relief on the wiring joints.

All wiring and items used were obtained from the local hardware store, nothing special or difficult to find.
