When Farming Gets Real

Hi everyone,

✨ Just want to start by saying this video is quite different to my others and has sensitive footage with a sick animal, so it you feel like you may be too upset, please don’t watch, but it is a sad fact of farming life sometimes✨

As some of you might remember, as well as looking after the orphaned animals and running my tour company, I am also a cattle farmer. I learnt how to do it from my grandfather and father and living on a cattle ranch in Australia for 6 months.

I look after the female herd and I love my ‘cow girls’ very much as you may have seen in a previous video haha

In this video I show you the sad behind the scenes of what it is like when there is a sick cow, who had recently had a calf 🥲

She presented with what I thought might be symptoms of a disease called Snot Sickness (Snotsiekte in Afrikaans) which is spread by wildebeest and is deadly to cattle.

We gave her antibiotics and pain relief injections and consulted a vet, but she was getting worse not better and so we had to make the difficult decision of what to do to stop the suffering. No animal deserves to suffer even for a minute.

It made my heart break, but we know that her pain is over now and she is not at risk of infecting the rest of the herd.
