From all of us at the CYLAND, we’re wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! As the year ends, we look back at some of the most memorable highlights.
Our main project, the International Festival of Media Arts—known as CYFEST—took place in Venice, New York, and Yerevan. The festival showcased over 100 artists and attracted more than 10,000 visitors from around the globe.
CYFEST 15: Vulnerability in Venice coincided with the 50th Venice Biennale. It was supported by Ca’ Foscari University and CSAR, and was included in the Art Night Venice program.
CYFEST 16: Archive of Feelings. A Journey in Yerevan was dedicated to honoring the legacy of minimalist composer Phill Niblock (October 2, 1933 – January 8, 2024). The festival featured two large-scale exhibitions, world music premieres, concerts, performances, and video art programs from Taiwan, France, and South Korea, as well as a series of educational events. A significant highlight of this year was an exhibition showcasing the work of Markos Grigorian, an Iranian-Armenian and American artist recognized as a pioneer of Iranian modern art. The festival took place at six leading venues in Yerevan and attracted over 3,000 visitors over the course of three weeks.
The year 2024 also became a time for educational events at CYLAND. In Venice, we organized a panel discussion in collaboration with Ca’ Foscari, CSAR, and Weave, and presented the Umbigo Magazine. In Yerevan, we launched an interdisciplinary program for the residents of Engineering City and participated in both Armenia Engineering Week and Science Week Armenia. Partnering with the Leonardo ISAST, we conducted five Laser Talks on various topics, including Environmental Justice for Non-Human Species, International Art and Science Lab Exchange, Black Holes, Artists and AI, Light, Color and Matter and Generative Art. Additionally, we published several catalogues and an essay on minimalist composer Phil Niblock throughout the year.
We also participated in exhibitions in New York, USA; Liège, Belgium; Paris and Meudon, France; Rože, Montenegro; and Yerevan, Armenia and conducted video screenings at the VIDEOFORMES festival in Clermont-Ferrand, France, and participated in Guymri Art Week in Armenia.
Thank you for your continued support! It’s been a delight to share this year with so many of you in so many ways. We can’t wait to see you in 2025!
