Through-hole assembly is a method of mounting electronic components onto printed circuit boards (PCBs) by inserting component leads through drilled holes and soldering them to pads on the opposite side.

It provides robust mechanical support and is suited for components requiring strong physical bonds, like connectors and large capacitors. While traditionally done manually, automation has streamlined the process, though it remains less suitable for high-density PCBs compared to surface-mount technology (SMT). Through-hole assembly ensures reliable electrical connections and is favored for applications where durability and mechanical stability are critical.
