@Kansas University History Professor Bill Tuttle
“I’ve attended a lot of concerts over the years, but nothing has ever moved me as much — especially spiritually — as the 1979 Bob Marley and the Wailers show at KU. There was a great deal of herb being shared in Hoch Auditorium, and I was able to inch my way down to the front, where I had a wonderful view of Marley and the I-Three. By the way, the Blue Riddim Band was also fabulous!”

I was there. Best concert I ever saw. I remember the sound was like a battleship sailing through the hall. Huge and powerful. Three of everything: guitarists, horn players, drummers, I-Threes.

@Robert
That show as Hoke was my first professional show as a sound engineer. I was working with Blue Riddim that night. My memory of that evening was standing at the monitor mix console. Bob Marley walked up and was standing next to me watching Blue Riddim perform. I didn’t have much opportunity to talk to him, but he did look over at me during the show and said, (about Duck the ‘Riddim drummer) “That’s the best reggae drummer I have ever seen”

Riddim and Marley shows were epic that night. I think Bob new he had cancer and a limited time with us. He was an amazing human. Later I traveled with Blue Riddim’ as their sound engineer for a year or so. Loved those guys.

I was there too. We were drinking beer on the front steps and the I Threes pulled up out front and asked my friend and I where they could park the Mercedes they were in. So cool.

I remember the shock on the faces of the Hoch Auditorium workers when the band filled the pristine plush and rich wood laden place with more marijuana smoke than anyone had ever seen before. This was the last true reggae show ever at Hoch, which was closed for days after to clean out the beautiful stench we loved but the administration despised. I was there. Truly the highlight of my extensive music and festival life. I'm 62 now, 18 at the time. Good times with S. Wren.

I was there...but I remember it being much louder!

‪@tedkeith7179‬
It was one of the loudest shows I have been to. The loudest was probably Nugent in the same venue.
