The Alliance System explained (WWI) - History GCSE

Описание к видео The Alliance System explained (WWI) - History GCSE

In the early 20th century, Europe was divided into alliances. The two main alliances were the Triple Entente (Britain, France & Russia) and the Triple Alliance (Germany, Austria-Hungary & Italy). The alliance system meant that countries were obliged to help other allies, and if one was attacked the others would protect them. When the First World War broke out in July 1914, the alliance system dragged more and more of Europe's great powers into the war. By the end of August 1914, Britain, Russia and France were at war with Germany and Austria-Hungary.
