MIB (Management Information Base) – A hierarchical database of network objects managed via SNMP. Defines the structure and data types of managed objects.

OID (Object Identifier) – A globally unique identifier assigned to each object in the MIB. OIDs form a tree structure used to reference variables.

Trap – An asynchronous SNMP message sent from an agent to a manager to notify about significant events (e.g., link failure).

Inform Request – Similar to traps, but requires acknowledgment from the SNMP manager, ensuring message delivery.

Community String – A text-based password used in SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c for authentication between manager and agent.

SNMP Manager – The central system that queries agents, collects data, and issues commands for configuration or control.

SNMP Agent – A software module running on managed devices that maintains MIB data and communicates with the SNMP manager.

PDU (Protocol Data Unit) – The data structure used in SNMP messages (e.g., GetRequest, SetRequest, Response).

USM (User-based Security Model) – Part of SNMPv3, providing authentication and privacy using user credentials and encryption.

VACM (View-based Access Control Model) – Another SNMPv3 component, defining access rights for users, restricting which MIB objects can be read or written.
