Malec (Magnus Bane & Alec Lightwood), One Of The Drunks

Alcoholism is a serious condition that requires empathy, support, and treatment.

Had Alec Lightwood, Magnus Bane, or Maryse Lightwood exhibited signs of serious, chronic alcohol abuse, I would not have made this video.

I was simply binge watching the series recently, noticing a few things that had escaped me on first viewing, and was amused by how Alec goes from this young twenty-something guy that's never been in a relationship, doesn't go out (unless Izzy and Jace are dragging him along with them) nor drink, and doesn't seem to allow himself to have any personal interests and hobbies outside of his responsibilities to the Clave, his family and his parabatai...

To this young, confident, and assertive leader in a committed relationship with a downworlder, that now follows his instincts over the Clave, is more than willing to break the rules if they contradict his morals and his own sense of right and wrong, cares about his family in a healthier way and is able to set boundaries with them, knows how to unwind and take time to socialize (with a select few)...

...and has taken up Magnus' drinking habits! 😆

Magnus has apparently helped Alec become his own person, and find happiness in his life through the power of unconditional love, authenticity, and alcohol! 😂🍸❤️

It's like this steady progression throughout the series that starts with Alec grimacing at the taste of his first Martini, and ends with him going straight for the bar when he gets back home from work to fix Magnus and himself drinks! 🤣

(I know it's a callback to Magnus offering Alec a drink and toasting "To Us" while barely knowing him near the start of the series; and Alec doing the same in the alternate reality... But still!

This is their last scene together, and what we get is Alec going straight for the drinks as Magnus gets off his phone! 😆 Priorities! First, drinks! Then I'll go steal a kiss from my husband, and offer him a proper greeting! 😂

Just beautiful! ❤️💕)

And apparently, his mother is much happier now that she's no longer under the pressure of proving herself to the Clave, and enjoying a drink or two with her children from time to time, too! ☺️

Essentially, the cure for any truly uptight, Lightwood perfectionist is getting them a good drink, and surrounding them with a (found) family that keeps on loving them no matter what, and will continue to support them as they deal with the consequences of their nose breaking and ground blowing.
