The president, speaking June 1 at a town hall in Elkhart, Indiana, described his administration's decision to bail out the auto industry, saying the idea polled at 10 percent, even in Michigan. "But we knew if we didn't do it, you'd lose a million jobs all across the Midwest, including here in Indiana," Mr. Obama said. "So we made that bet, and it worked."
