1 Children of the heav’nly Father
safely in his bosom gather.
Nestling bird nor star in heaven
such a refuge e’er was given.

2 God his own doth tend and nourish,
in his holy courts they flourish.
From all evil things he spares them,
in his mighty arms he bears them.

3 Neither life nor death shall ever
from the Lord his children sever.
Unto them his grace he showeth,
and their sorrows all he knoweth.

This hymn promises amazing life and hope. Written by Carolina Sandell Berg, who lived in great pain and anguish after witnessing the death by drowning of her father, the hymn was written under the influence of incredible grace amidst heart-wrenching pain. Similar to Horatio Spafford’s timeless hymn, “When Peace like a River,” the gorgeous tune is just as comforting as the lyrics, lifting the soul and calming the spirit. Christ’s words in Matthew 6:26 perfectly match the hymn when he says, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”
