Fashion photography’s new frontier is in new, blue depths.
Computers can do anything nowadays. Move mountains, create order from chaos, and paint a grey landscape in marvellous tones.
But for the Fedeli swim&wear catalogue cover, the image of our collection, we wanted something real, where the light could be seen seeping from above, filtered by the ripple of the waves overhead.
We wanted a unique underwater shot that was real. The undulation of the water had to transmit the great charge within. The jump – that upward dive towards the rippling crest – had to show a vital surge, the swift urgency of subaqueous movement. An air bubble could only be made as palpable, as alive and solid as we needed it to be by the hand of an artist.

QUALITY, ALL AROUND
Quality in fashion photography is something we truly believe in. Hence every year, for both our summer and winter collection photo shoots; we look for artists with the sensibility and experience to best portray every piece of our clothing line.

Because of this belief, even when it came to shooting one single, iconic photograph, we didn’t just choose a professional, we shot for the stars.

Zena is an underwater photographer and director, with an eye for art and a sensibility for beauty that make her the world expert in underwater fashion photography. And, she was exactly what we were looking for.

THE PHOTO CAMERA AND THE SEA
Two lifetime passions, artfully drawn together. As a teenager, Zena became a scuba diving instructor and a self-taught marine photographer, shooting with an amateur waterproof camera.
