Navigating Preeclamapsia & Perinatal Mental Health In Pregnancy | Nicole's Story

When pregnancies don't go to plan, The Royal is there. 💜

Nicole's pregnancy was far from smooth sailing. With a family history of bipolar disorder, depression and high-blood pressure, Nicole knew she would be at risk of developing preeclampsia in her pregnancy as well as an increased chance of developing postnatal depression and anxiety.

Due to these added complications, Nicole's pregnancy was closely monitored under the watchful eyes of the Antenatal, Maternal Fetal Medicine and Perinatal Mental Health teams at The Royal.

Following Archie's premature birth at 33 weeks, he was quickly whisked away to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit where he was promptly connected to life-saving respiratory support to help his tiny lungs breathe.

After a 3-week NICU stay, Nicole's family were invited to take part in the Foundation-funded Hospital in the Home program. This first-of-its-kind program for neonatal care, allows 120 babies a year to go home earlier. This allows space for more babies to receive intensive care while giving parents further along the NICU journey the opportunity to take their babies home earlier.

No matter the complexities - The Royal is there for every woman and baby when they need it most - providing personalised, innovative care and access to state of the art equipment.

Without the support of donors, this would not be possible.

Donations to Heart for Her this end of financial year will help clinicians provide better care to every woman, baby and family. 💜

All donations above $2.00 are tax deductible. Please give generously this end of financial year: https://www.royalwomen.org.au/heart-f...
