INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL AND WORKSHOP ON PROBING HADRON STRUCTURE AT THE ELECTRON-ION COLLIDER : ORGANIZERS

The upcoming electron-ion collider (EIC) to be built at the Brookhaven National Lab, USA will probe the internal structure of the protons and neutrons to unprecedented details, in terms of the fundamental building blocks, quarks and gluons. The EIC will bombard highly energetic electron beams with proton/heavy ion beam. Some of the key questions that the EIC will investigate are (i) how the quarks and gluons are distributed inside the nucleon ? (ii) How do the massless gluons and light quarks make up the mass of the bulk of the visible matter in the universe ? (iii) How is the spin (1/2) of the proton made up from the spin of its constituents and what is the role of the orbital angular momentum of the quarks and gluons ? (iv) Does a steady state of gluon saturation occurs in the heavy ion collision, called color glass condenstate ? Due to its high luminosity and wide kinematical coverage, EIC will probe the nucleon to unprecedental level, giving access to information never seen before.

The program is divided into two parts, for which separate registration will be needed. In the first week of the program, there will be a school mainly intended for PhD students, postdocs and junior faculty members working in the related field, where a set of introductory lectures will be given by experts. In the second week, there will be a workshop where frontier areas related to EIC physics will be discussed through talks and round table discussions. The program will be conducted in-person.

School (January 29-February 3, 2024): A few sets of lectures on basic physics topics related to EIC. The participants will have an opportunity to present their research in poster sessions during the school.
Eligibility criteria for the school: Research scholars working as JRF/SRF in a project or enrolled in a PhD program; post doctoral fellows and junior faculty members are eligible to apply for the school. PhD students and JRF/SRFs must ask their supervisors/PIs to upload a letter of recommendation. Topic of research should be in particle physics/QCD/hadron physics/heavy ion physics.

Eligibility criteria for the workshop: Participation in the workshop is by invitation only. Please fill up the registration form for the workshop to express your interest in participation.
