Henley‑on‑Thames is a picturesque riverside town in South Oxfordshire, celebrated for its historic connection to the River Thames. The Thames, England’s longest river at approximately 346 km (215 miles), flows through Oxford, Reading, Henley, Windsor, and London before emptying into the North Sea via the Thames Estuary
Henley’s early prosperity stemmed directly from river trade: malt, grain, timber, and coal were shipped via Thames barges, supporting malting, brewing, and related trades throughout the 17th and 18th centuries

. Its natural straight reach made it ideal for rowing—leading to the establishment of the world-famous Henley Royal Regatta in 1839, held annually over six days each early July along the Thames.
