Ben Quilty/ Margaret Olley Remembered

Описание к видео Ben Quilty/ Margaret Olley Remembered

Ben Quilty reflects about his friendship with Margaret Olley, and the lasting influence of her support on his practice. Olley was a generous donor, mentor to emerging artists and a firm friend to many. Quilty is in conversation with Simon Wright, Assistant Director, Learning & Public Engagement, QAGOMA.

‘Quilty’ is the first major survey exhibition in a decade of one of Australia’s most acclaimed contemporary artists, Ben Quilty. The exhibition extends from Quilty’s early reflections on the initiation rituals performed by young Australian men to his experience as an official war artist in Afghanistan and his campaign to save the lives of Bali Nine pair. It also includes his revisions of the Australian landscape, and raw, intimate portraits.

At the same time as ‘Quilty’, GOMA is presenting ‘Margaret Olley: A Generous Life’, a Queensland-only exhibition of more than 100 works by the late, much celebrated Australian artist who was a close muse and mentor of Quilty’s. ‘A Generous Life’ examines her legacy and influence, and profiles a life that was immersed in art – her own and those she supported.
