Today I will be talking about the requirements of studying abroad

As we discussed in our last video that many students are going abroad for undergraduate studies. I am sure, now you would like to know the requirements for studying abroad. Let me tell you that every country and every course have specific requirements which I will be covering in my country specific video series.

Today, I will be talking about the general requirements for studying bachelors outside of India. In this video you will get to know the
• overall profile required for admissions
• importance of class XII marks,
• entrance exams required for various countries, and
• English language tests

So, without wasting any more time, let us start the conversation.

Friends, for admissions to any of the top universities in India you a need a one thing – A great percentage because it is all focused-on academics. However, when you talk about overseas education – it is an overall profile of the student that matters.

What is this overall profile and why there is so much buzz around it? An overall profile is this … pointing to the white board

Academics (Class IX, X, XI, XII): Yaar, when we talk about admissions in top universities around the world. They don’t make decisions only on class XII marks – any reason why do they do so? Because the admissions office wants to see CONSISTENCY .. ab woh kaise dekhte hain… they check it through your marks from class IX till XII. I am sure ek aur doubt aa gaya hoga aapke dimag me, that I didn’t score well in Class XI.. (ek secret even I had compartment in my Class XI, Maths). It is okay if you didn’t do well in Class XI even admissions officers at top universities understand this and consider it natural because you are adjusting with the subjects! So, don’t worry about it. But it is important to have average to good marks from class IX to XII.

Extracurricular Activities: For admissions outside of India requires you to have good extracurricular activities on your resume. They don’t want people who is always busy with studies. Hum sabne bachpan mei suna – ‘All work and No Play, makes Jack a dull boy’. And it is strongly followed by people outside of India. I am sure right now also you will have one student at least in your class who is all in to studies and no play.
Admissions officer wants to know how you will deal with real practical situations like winning, failures, team spirit – all this is only possible to experience on the field out there!
Showcase your activities beginning 9th grade. What matters is – the consistency! Even if you have played table at a gurudwara for four consecutive years, it will COUNT!

Leadership: The third thing is leadership activities or positions that you have held during your high school. It is important to showcase your leadership abilities in your profile. How? Good Questions! You can start any club in your school or contest for Head Boy / Head Girl position etc. Let me give you an example: I had a student who wanted to pursue bachelor’s in entrepreneurship. But he had no activity related to entrepreneurship in his profile. So, he started a club in high school when he was in Class XI. He started renting out his father’s comic books collection for Re 1. This way he showed interest in entrepreneurship and gave it a social angel to it – because these days student do not like to read physical books. All our hooked to mobile phone or digital mediums. He made them opt for physical comics to read through.

NOW THIS IS WHAT WE MEAN BY OVERALL PROFILING OF A STUDENT. It is important to focus on academics, build on life skills through extracurricular activities and show passion towards a particular field.
