Despite hip hop's cultural prominence and popularity, it is often dismissed as provocative and divisive. Rahma Gulaid believes that not only is this a gross oversimplification of the music, but that these qualities are actually what make the genre so powerful and important. She argues that since its creation over four decades ago, hip hop has been used as a tool of defiance— it is "the soundtrack to revolution." In this Talk, Rahma sheds light on the true nature of hip hop.
