In the beginning about one hundred families were involved in this profession. At present 5 to 6 families have been holding the profession for generations. Almost everyone has turned away from this profession due to lack of money and government patronage. Locals say that if the cheese makers are not brought back to this profession, the ancient cheese industry of Ashtagram will soon disappear. The artisans say Aboro will return to the cheese-making profession with government patronage.
