In an inspiring leap towards a brighter future, 76 of Papua New Guinea’s brightest young minds are embarking on a transformative journey to the USA this week. These exceptional students, who excelled in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) during their Grade 12 year in 2023 at the six national schools of excellence—Sogeri, Aiyura, Kerevat, Passam, Wawin, and Port Moresby—have earned prestigious scholarships to pursue advanced studies in fields like aerospace engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, petroleum engineering, and more.

This initiative, championed by Prime Minister Hon. James Marape, is part of a broader vision to equip PNG’s youth with the skills and opportunities to thrive on the global stage. Already, 43 outstanding students from the 2022 STEM programme have secured placements at top US universities, with more set to follow in India and China.
