"I am a Glaswegian, Pakistani teenager, woman, woman of Muslim descent, who supports Glasgow Rangers in a Catholic school... 'cos I’m a dazzling mixture and I’m proud of it"

This clip is from the 2004 romantic-drama film ‘Ae fond Kiss’ (3 min 49 sec to 4 min 15 sec), also known as Just a Kiss, directed by Ken Loach.

Tahara Khan (actress Shabana Akhtar Bakhsh) is addressing her school assembly - and sums up the beauty of ‘happens to be' as regards identity.

Putting aside her regional background and nationality (Glaswegian, Scottish), ethnicity (Pakistani decent), age (teenager), gender (woman) and religion (Muslim), she emphasises her ‘happens to be...’ as someone “who supports Glasgow Rangers in a Catholic school..." - as well as the fact that, like many of us, she is a "...dazzling mixture and proud of it!”

Note: The rivalry between Glasgow Rangers FC and Glasgow Celtic FC, the 'old firm' derby, is one of the deepest in the sporting world. Rangers' traditional support is largely drawn from the Protestant Unionist community; whilst Celtic's traditional support is largely drawn from the Catholic community.
