And so it was once upon a time when The Lingholm Estate was the perfect place to live alpacaly ever after! Situated on the Western Shore of Derwentwater in a dramatic location, it is surrounded by incredible views of some of the best loved Lakeland fells.


Stroll at super relaxed alpaca pace through the private grounds of the estate where Beatrix Potter spent many summers. Get to know our wonderful alpacas up close while they snack along the way, take them for a paddle in the lake, meet the herd, take part in feeding time and ask as many questions as you can think of!


What to Expect


Our guides will record your adventure with photographs throughout the walk absolutely free of charge!


-Activity takes place at The Lingholm Estate, Portinscale, Keswick, The Lake District CA12 5TZ.

-Prices start at £80 for 2 people walking 2 alpacas on a Private Walk (group discounts apply), and £35 per person on a Mixed Group Walk, 1 alpaca per person.

-Under 10s can accompany for free on Private Walks and are not included in the booking numbers but must share with a paying adult.

-No accompanying walkers. All visitors over 10 yrs must be paid for as part of the booking. For the benefit of the alpacas we like to keep the ratio of people to alpacas as even as possible.

-No under 10s on Mixed Group Walks.

-All visitors under 18 yrs must be accompanied by a parent/guardian as part of the booking leading their own alpaca.

-Activity lasts roughly 1.5 hours with a safety introduction at the start.

-Groups of up to 12 walkers on Private Walks. Groups of up to 8 on Mixed Group.

-Also accessible by Keswick Launch Ferry Service.

-Mixed Group Walk everyday at 9am, Private Walks everyday at 9am, 10:45am, 12:45pm & 3:15pm subject to availability (summer hours).

Accessibility | Facilities

-Suitable for all ages.

-The walk is a flat gentle stroll (at alpaca pace!) suitable for all abilities/mobilities and can be adapted for wheelchair users (Private Walks only).

-If you require the walk to be adapted for any mobility issues or the use of a wheel chair please tick the relevant box during the booking process and leave details of any requirements in the space provided so our guides can plan your activity. -Site facilities include a large cafe & bakery with indoor and outdoor seating, washrooms and disabled toilets, car parking and disabled parking, walled garden, grounds, jetty onto Derwent Water.


An idyllic location


The stunning Lingholm Kitchen looks down onto an octagonal walled garden built in a Victorian style using reclaimed materials.


The Kitchen Offers delicious locally sourced meals, real barista coffee and an extensive range of teas, alongside artisan breads and home baked cakes made in the onsite bakery now open to visitors. All our latest alpacaly gifts, knits, knitting kits, wonders and delights are now available to purchase in the gorgeous gift shop!


A short stroll down the drive takes you to a footpath leading to Catbells, one of the most famous lakeland walks ,and in the other direction to the boat launch to Keswick. So you can combine your alpaca walk with a mountain climb or a boat trip!
