What does normal mean for someone with the bipolar type of schizoaffective disorder? What does it mean for someone with a different mental health condition? Well, even with those modifiers, a lot of us would say that no one is normal, that everyone’s version is different, or that it flat out doesn’t exist. But to me, the idea of society’s version of “normal” is what helped pull me out of the pit of despair.

But recently, at a conference, this idea was challenged in a way I didn’t expect.

So join me today, as I dive deep into what the word “normal” means to me. Both where I was, and where I am now.
