Nuwan Kulasekara was ever-reliable for Sri Lanka since his debut and bowled many match-winning spells for the country in all formats. In this occasion, Sri Lanka rested several of their stars and Kulasekara spearheaded a young bowling unit at Hambantota. Kulasekara began the match with a ripper against Hafeez and continued to swing the ball both ways giving Pakistani batsmen more than a headache. Kulasekara came back to bowl the 18th and 20th overs with a barrage of slower ball and cutters when Afridi was attempting to break free with no success from Nuwan's end. Once, Kulasekara hit Afridi's stumps and unfortunately the bails did not come off. Sri Lanka went on to lose the game after restricting the Pakistanis to 122 on the back of a poor batting display.
