Описание к видео What Music Actually Does to Your Brain

Music is the world’s common language. It unites, it moves, it inspires, it comforts. It transports. Music amps up creativity, brings down stress levels, enhances your mood, helps you sleep and connects you to others. Sounds too good to be true. But it’s not.

Our brains can determine the difference between music and noise, sense rhythm and discern harmonies.

How we hear music is complex. Music approaches our ears as soundwaves and causes vibrations in the eardrum that travel through the middle ear.

A chemical neurotransmitter is released that sends electrical currents to the auditory cortex in the temporal lobe of the brain.

Music can change your brain. Physically. It changes the release of dopamine and serotonin, the feel-good chemicals of joy. It engages multisensory and motor networks. It touches the emotion and reward system and it enhances the effects of occupational and certain psychological therapies.

Listening to and making music is like a workout for your brain. It can help to cultivate a sense of purpose, and some research suggests that it can improve memory and language skills. So go for it. Sing in the shower, take guitar lessons, learn how to drum…dance! It’s a bright, tuneful world!
