Описание к видео 1998 - 2000 GM OBS K Truck w/4L80E Autotrack I (NP246) Transfer Case Removal Process (Chevy & GMC)

In this detail oriented video we go thru the complete step by step removal of the New Process Gear 246 (NP246 or 246GM) transfer case from a GM old body style (OBS) K truck, the first generation Auto-Trak (or Auto-Trak I) type with RPO NP8. The vehicle illustrated is a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban LT K1500 which has the 4L80E transmission, commonly found on K2500 and K3500 grade trucks (as well as K1500 trucks with 6.5L diesel engines like this Suburban). The NP246 was introduced in 1998 and used thru 2007, later being renamed to NV246 (for New Venture Gear). This video may apply to new body style (NBS) trucks transfer case removal too, but there are going to be differences from the OBS layout so we capped the year range in the title to be thru 2000 only.

The bigger size of the 4L80E transmission, along with the Suburban's utility body style, presents for some extra clearance challenges that we will go thru for dealing with the removal of the NP246 transfer case from the vehicle. The entire transfer case drop procedure is done WITHOUT the need for, or use of, any jack stands. You can perform this DIY repair procedure using the trucks regular ride height alone.
