In the video we made with ‪@SameSkyDevices‬ we noted that DC Motors are notoriously imprecise when it comes to control, particularly compared to stepper motors. However, if you use a linear potentiometer, you immediately increase your control by manually varying the speed of the motor. With a MOSFET or other transistor in the circuit, you can easily control the speed of a DC motor with a potentiometer without fear of burning up the potentiometer. Check out this video which uses a quick animation to show how the circuit is setup followed by a demo - you'll need the sound so that you can hear the change in speed of the motor.
