Using a combination of filing and turning, Nick Mitchell works through the process of making a correctly sized brass dome (as an alternative to using a cast part) for locomotive No. 10735.

Although a watchmaker's lathe is used in this presentation, other model makers working in 2mm scale have achieved similar results using nothing more exotic than a mini-drill and files to shape the metal.
