Volvo V40 Cross Country (2016) – Live Urban, Live Adventure

The Volvo V40 Cross Country is essentially a toughed-up more angular version of the classy and handsome Volvo V40 hatchback. To find out if it’s any good, Jason of TechnoBok takes this latest 2016 V40 Cross Country T4 edition for a drive.

To start things off, let’s take a look at the outside of the Cross Country. With its chunky body, increased ride height and overall more muscular appearance, Volvo has managed to make this latest edition V40 Cross Country even prettier than ever.

With a body which couples curvaceous lines and ripped build, Volvo really has in my opinion, excelled on the design front. The V40 looks as good parked in a Swedish office block as it does when parked on a trail path.

Featuring a five-cylinder direct injection petrol motor, the vehicle develops 140 kW & 300 Nm of torque. Power delivery is impressive, with the Volvo feeling quick off the mark. Owing to its 300 Nm of torque, the Volvo should also provide solid pulling power when used for towing. Torque is developed between the rev range of 1500 – 4000 rpm.

he V40 features an upfront media entertainment system, which is somewhat different to most other market competitors. While the system remains fairly easy to navigate, it is controlled with a jog dial placed on the floating central console, rather than a more conventional central dial, as used by most other competitors. The overall system has a clean layout but does take some time to get comfortable with.

Final Say

The Volvo V40 Cross Country is a solid, safe and easy to live with crossover vehicle. With its rugged body and minimalist interior, it remains very pleasing on the eye. Despite looking like an off-roader, it is most comfortable on the road, where its road manners are impeccable.
