Hundreds of protesters are gathering in Darwin for a Black Lives Matter rally today after restrictions were quietly relaxed on Thursday.

While Prime Minister Scott Morrison issued a strong warning to Australians not to attend protests this weekend for fear of a second coronavirus wave, Northern Territory ministers effectively condoned today's demonstration.

Despite conflicting messages, Darwin protest organisers stood firm on their plans.

Larrakia woman Sharna Alley addressed the rally on Saturday morning, saying “we’re tired of the injustices, we’re tired of the brutality against our people in so-called protective custody".

"We really want to know, when will it stop?”
