A Bengal Sapper Officer from Rajasthan, Captain Chauhan was deployed at the frontline Kumar Post, situated at a forbidding altitude of approximately 15,600 feet. Her posting broke the long-standing tradition where women officers were only permitted to serve at the lower altitude base camp. To earn her deployment, she successfully completed a month-long, rigorous training program at the Siachen Battle School.
The training regimen was extensive, covering critical skills such as ice wall climbing, survival drills, and high-altitude rescue techniques. This demanding preparation, undertaken alongside her male counterparts, proved her unflinching grit and determination, which led to her selection for the three-month assignment. Captain Chauhan led a team of Sappers responsible for executing various combat engineering assignments crucial for maintaining operational readiness in the harsh terrain. Her achievement was publicly lauded by the Prime Minister, who praised her deployment as a powerful illustration of India's "Nari Shakti".
