We usually say that "things fall down because of gravity," as if gravity were just a pulling force. But in reality, gravity is not exactly a force—it is the effect of curved spacetime.

If gravity were just a simple pulling force, then everything in our Solar System should have fallen straight into the Sun by now. But that doesn’t happen. Why? Because the planets are not standing still—they are moving forward at very high speeds.

Here’s the actual picture:

The Sun is extremely massive (about 333,000 times the mass of Earth).

According to Einstein’s General Relativity, mass bends spacetime.

You can imagine spacetime like a stretched rubber sheet. If you place a heavy ball (like the Sun) on it, the sheet curves and creates a deep well.

Now, when smaller balls (like planets) roll near that curve, they don’t fall straight in. Instead, their forward motion + the curved spacetime makes them go around in orbits.

So, planets are not being "pulled" into the Sun in the classical sense. They are actually trying to move in a straight line, but since spacetime itself is curved by the Sun’s mass, their straight path looks like a circle (or ellipse) around the Sun.
