New Hybrid-Electric Honda Prelude Coming To USA Late Next Year

Honda has officially confirmed that the all-new Prelude will make its way to the United States, marking an exciting addition to its lineup. Scheduled to arrive in late 2025 as a 2026 model year vehicle, this hybrid coupe is set to showcase the brand’s innovative two-motor hybrid system, similar to what is found in the Honda Civic and Accord. The production version is expected to stay true to the concept design that has been making rounds at various auto shows.

Initially, Honda was uncertain about bringing the Prelude to the United States market. However, its appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show last year served as a test to gauge consumer interest, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. This marks Honda’s second effort to revive a beloved nameplate, following the Acura Integra’s successful return to North America in 2022. The Integra’s strong sales indicate that nostalgia, when done right, can have a powerful appeal.

The new Prelude is likely to share much of its engineering with the Civic hybrid, which is already widely praised for its performance and efficiency. However, Honda’s engineers have clarified that the Prelude is not intended to be a hardcore sports car. So, while it may not compete with the likes of the Toyota GR86, it will fill a niche as an affordable two-door coupe—something rare in today’s market.

This system builds on Honda’s Linear Shift Control, which simulates the feel of a traditional engine and transmission in its hybrid cars. S+ Shift aims to provide an even sportier driving experience, aligning with the Prelude’s name and heritage. While details about how S+ Shift operates remain limited, it is clear that Honda is targeting driving enthusiasts with this feature.

As of now, many questions remain unanswered, such as production location and pricing. Nevertheless, the Prelude’s blend of stylish design, advanced hybrid technology, and affordability has us eagerly anticipating its arrival.
