Despite Russia's claim that it intervened in Crimea because of the threat of far-right groups, nationalist parties in Europe say they admire the Russians for defending their interests.

An Hungarian MP from the nationalist Jobbik party told Al Jazeera that the annexation of Crimea by the Russians had created a "counterweight to the West".

Far-right leaders in France and Slovakia have also voiced their support for President Vladimir Putin's position over the crisis in Ukraine.

Al Jazeera's Laurence Lee reports from the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
