Prague Castle Tour: The Largest Ancient Castle In The World! Part 1 (4K)

Prague Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognized for its outstanding cultural and historical value. It holds the title of being the largest ancient castle complex in the world according the Guinnes World Records. It covers an area of approx. 70,000 square meters (750,000 square feet).
But don't expect a Cinderella or Frozen type castle. This is a complex that includes several palaces, churches, gardens etc.
The most famous are St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, the Basilica of St. George, and the Golden Lane.
Prague Castle has been the seat of Czech kings, emperors, and presidents for over a thousand years.
The castle was founded in the 9th century and has been continuously expanded and renovated throughout its history.

You can explore its many courtyards, gardens, and historical buildings. Highlights include the grand halls of the Old Royal Palace, the intricate architecture and magnificent interior of St. Vitus Cathedral, and the charming Golden Lane (Zlatá ulička).

The castle complex showcases a variety of architectural styles, including Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque. This diversity reflects the castle's long and varied history.
St.Vitus Cathedral, the centerpiece of the castle complex, is a prime example of Gothic architecture.

We arrived by tram No 22 from the stop National Theater, but you can take also tram No 23. We shared in the video a few more stops, in case you are in a different area of the center of Prague.
From the north side of the Castle you can enter either by the Queen Ann's Summer house (Královský Letohrádek) and then via Royal Gardens and Powder bridge, or exit the tram at Pražský hrad (Prague Castle) and enter the Castle via Powder bridge (Prašný most).

From the north entrance you will get directly to the 2nd Courtyard that serves as a central point that connects the different parts of Prague Castle, including passageways to the 1st and 3rd courtyards.

On the 2nd Courtyard you can find the beautiful baroque fountain, known as Leopold or Kohl's fountain dates back to the late 17th century, Chapel of the Holy Cross and it's surrounded by the State and presidential rooms and offices.

The Kohl's fountain is adorned with the symbols with deep historical and cultural meanings, often found in heraldry and emblems.
The Eagle - a symbol of power, courage, and vision. In heraldry, it often represents strength, nobility, and a high vantage point, reflecting the ability to see far and protect.
The Lion - symbolizes courage, strength, and royalty. In heraldry, the lion is often seen as the king of beasts, embodying bravery and authority.
The Crown - represents monarchy, authority, and sovereignty. It signifies legitimate rule and the glory of the ruling power.

The combination of these symbols on Kohl's Fountains serves several purposes:
National Identity, celebrates the unity and identity of the Czech land - Bohemia and Moravia under the Czech Crown.
Historical Continuity - it reflects the continuity of Czech history and the legacy of its rulers, emphasizing Prague Castle's role as a central seat of power.
Royal Authority - The crown, along with the eagle and lion, reinforces the theme of royal authority and the historical significance of Prague Castle as a royal and political center.
