The Whistler Blackcomb ski resort sits snugly at the base of its surrounding mountain ranges. The resort was founded in the 1960s. Its popularity exploded when the site was chosen as the host of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Whistler Blackcomb is open for both the summer and winter seasons. The resort is a popular destination for skiing, snowboarding, tubing, snowmobile tours, and more in the winter. In the summer, visitors can participate in alpine hiking and walking tours, take a turn at the Whistler Mountain Biking Park or sign up for a bear tour in the hopes of viewing some of the over 60 black bears that make the resort their home.

At the top of Tianmen Mountain in Hunan Province of China sits a naturally-formed arch called Heaven's Gate. It can only be reached by climbing 999 steps to the top of the mountain. Once reached the top of the stairs, travelers are rewarded with a sweeping view of the surrounding mountain peaks from the other side. Tianmen Mountain range is also a popular tourist destination in that region that features several daring activities for those brave enough to attempt them.

The Bavarian Alps comprises a series of mountain ranges stretching along with eastern Germany, between the Lech and Saalach rivers. Formed throughout the last ice age, the limestone peaks and cliffs were created by the movement of glaciers. The snow-capped peaks of the various mountain ranges vary from around 2,000 to 3,000 feet high. Around the foothills of the great limestone mountains, the surrounding landscape is made up of bogs, lakes, and rolling valleys.

The sandstone cliffs also feature a lighthouse built in the early 20th century for those who would rather stay ashore and enjoy on-land activities. In spring, the area is overrun with wild orchids and egret colonies making their nests along the shore.
