Entrevista a Jordi Soler

On the occasion of the XI ISLA we had a series of interviews with writers from Ireland, Spain and Latin America. We finish this series with Jordi Soler.

Jordi Soler is a Mexican author of ten novels, translated into several languages, and books of short stories, essays and poetry.

From Bocafloja, his first novel, he became one of the most important literary voices of his generation. The House of World Cultures in Berlin produced a profile of his work, noting: "More than any other writer of his generation, Soler has achieved a highly visual style of his own in his prose and poetry." During the last decade of the 20th Century, parallel to his work as a writer, he made music and literature programs on Mexican radio. He was a diplomat in Ireland and now lives in Barcelona, the city that his family abandoned after the Spanish Civil War, where he is working on his next novel and publishing articles in newspapers and magazines.

He is a Knight of the Irish Order of Finnegans and a member of the National System of Art Creators of Mexico.

Con ocasión del XI ISLA mantuvimos una serie de entrevistas con escritores de Irlanda, España y América Latina. Terminamos esta serie de entrevistas con Jordi Soler.

Jordi Soler es un escritor mexicano autor de diez novelas, traducidas a varias lenguas, y varios libros de cuentos, ensayo y poesía.

Desde Bocafloja, su primera novela, se convirtió en una de las voces literarias más importantes de su generación. La Casa de las Culturas del Mundo en Berlín elaboró un perfil sobre su obra señalando que: «Más que cualquier otro de los escritores de su generación, Soler ha conseguido un estilo propio, altamente visual, en su prosa y su poesía». En la última década del siglo XX, de manera paralela a su trabajo de escritor, hizo programas de música y literatura en la radio mexicana. Fue diplomático en Irlanda y ahora vive en Barcelona —ciudad que abandonó su familia tras de la guerra civil española—, donde trabaja en su siguiente novela y en artículos que publica en diarios y revistas.

Es caballero de la irlandesa Orden del Finnegans y miembro del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte de México.
