The Baltimore SubwayLink is an odd little system as I covered before. It was the child of the belt-tightening the Early 80s and its history shows it was supposed to be a much larger system before racism and money woes only gave us one out of the six-line planned. Though did you know the elevated portions of the line were suppose to in a highway median similar to Old Court and Owings Mills? The highway at Owings Mill (I-795) was supposed to be extended south of its current end at Old Court with I-695 down to Wabash Ave and Liberty Heights Avenue where the SubwayLink goes underground. The highway and the SubwayLink were supposed to share the right-of-way on a causeway with the SubwayLink in the middle. The highway was canceled in 1970s due to it's path crossing through a very historic neighborhood near Reisterstown Plaza Station and the fund were diverted to SubwayLink and Light RailLink. This lead to the SubwayLink being built on a concrete Elevated Track through the city limits and in a small tunnel through said historic neighborhood whose now a national landmark.
