The year 2022 marked the 50th birthday of the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department (PBC Parks). Ignited by this celebration, the Office of Public Engagement (OPE) launched a yearlong celebration, including a commemorative book detailing a snapshot-in-time of the department along with other artifacts.

The 50th Anniversary Commemorative Book celebrates the growth, diversity, and impact of PBC Parks across 50 years. Created completely in-house, this 240-page commemorative book encompasses an organized breakdown of the makeup of our department threaded with the history of their developments.

The sections include a list of our parks and facilities, messages from the directors, history of leadership, a snapshot of our employee workforce, a listing of awards and recognitions, park profiles organized by park classifications, and special features on history-rich facilities— a historical encyclopedia, both a commemorative and a valuable resource.

In addition to the commemorative book, this campaign included special, anniversary version of the department logo, anniversary-themed events, commemorative coins, t-shirts, and a special-edition of the Leisure Times Magazine. To top it off, a time capsule was installed in the administrative offices, with a procession of division directors contributing the articles to be preserved.

When the time capsule is opened in 2072 for our 100th Anniversary, we hope that future department employees will be able to enjoy this quality publication as a vintage piece. This commemorative book is not only a celebratory publication, but it has also become a handy reference publication for employees looking for historical information or park specifications.
