Here's the first of my make-up videos for the earlier drought of uploads, and I have a treat coming. We're going back, before Zoids was even a thing. To Mechabonica.

In 1981, 41 years ago, the very first toys in what would become 'Zoids' were released in Japan, under the Mechabonica toyline. One of the first toys you would assemble yourself and then set off in motion, they were a novel idea for the time. However they failed to sell well and the toyline was cancelled. Thankfully they were re-released in Europe as 'Zoids' and they were much more successful, then they were brought back to Japan and released worldwide under this new toyline.

Protozoid, AKA 'Elephantus', was one of the original three Mechabonica figures. Based on an Elephant it has a very simple design, but the ears, tail, and 'tusk' cannons make it clear what animal it is supposed to be. Primitive by Zoids standards (the Mechabonica toys were more like space-themed exploration vehicles than war machines), it's still pretty neat seeing the humble beginnings Zoids came from.
