Liberal MP Tim Smith has criticised Premier Daniel Andrews’ roadmap out of lockdown for strangling Victorian business and community while the coronavirus caseload continues to trend downward.

“This is not a roadmap to recovery, this is a death warrant for businesses, communities and, indeed, the very soul of Melbourne and Victoria,” Mr Smith told Sky News.

“We’re going to be locked down to the end of the year, make no mistake about this.”

He indicated New South Wales reported a daily average of nine new cases over the past fortnight.

“So under Chairman Dan’s rules, NSW would currently have a 9pm curfew, hospitality … retail would be closed and the kids would be sent home from school,” he said.

“To see this sort of nutbaggery going on down here today is so devastating for so many business owners, for their staff, so many jobs are going to be lost.

“It’s soul-destroying for them, and it's debilitating.

“I accept absolutely we just can’t open everything back up this morning, that would be ridiculous … but there’s got to be a happy medium between what Daniel Andrews has announced and what constitutes common sense.”
