Pastor Grant coordinated and MC'd this event as one of his last days on the job for World Relief Southern California before moving to a chaplaincy residency program.

On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, World Relief's VP of Advocacy and Policy and National Coordinator of the Evangelical Immigration Table, Matthew Soerens gave a presentation and led a discussion on faith and immigration, entitled, "Welcoming the Stranger." With San Diego pastors and other Christians and community members interested in the topic, Matt took us through the many Scriptures related to immigrants as well as addressed common concerns such as the economy, crime, and legality.

San Diego Site Manager for World Relief SoCal (and bi-vocational pastor) Grant Van Leuven opened in prayer and MC'd this event. Jane Register, Director of Development and Communications for World Relief Southern California, gave closing comments and prayer.

Matthew Soerens is co-author of books such as Welcoming the Stranger: Justice, Compassion, & Truth in the Immigration Debate and INALIENABLE. He has been guiding pastors across the US and across denominations on how to approach this topic with a clear biblical framework and an accurate understanding of immigration laws and procedures in the US. He also regularly participates with immigrant-focused World Relief border emersions, as he did during this trip to San Diego before he spoke for us on Wednesday.
