The group consisted of Arnaud De Lie, Magnus Cort, Matteo Trentin, Søren Kragh Andersen and four other strong riders. De Lie had his team mate Berckmoes with him. On Kiddesvej - the final 19% climb - De Lie attacked and got a gap, but Cort stayed in contention, and on the last 200 meters De Lie could feel the accelerations he had made earlier on the stage. In fact, with 4 kilometers to go, we see him almost getting dropped from the group.

The stage was 231 kilometers long, and within the final 70 kilometers there were several 10+ percent climbs, including the steepest street in Denmark (up to 25.5 percent).
