The Northern Ireland Institute of Agricultural Science (NIIAS) hosted a webinar on outcome based agri-environment schemes on Monday 28th June at 7pm.
The keynote speaker wass Vicky Robinson, principal adviser at Natural England. Vicky discussed the ongoing development of new agri environment schemes in England, namely the Sustainable Farming Incentive, Local Nature Recovery and Landscape Recovery.
These schemes will be the main replacement to the Basic Payment Scheme in England and will be mainly based around the concept of “public money for public goods”.
Test and trial schemes are underway where farmers are paid for delivering specific results. Thisdiffers from previous agri environment schemes where payments were made for carrying out measures, regardless of their outcome.
But what happens if the desired results are not achieved? How have farmers reacted to outcome-based schemes? And are these schemes much more complicated and harder to administer?
During her presentation, Vicky will explained how results-based schemes work in practice and was available to answer questions afterwards
