On June 14, 2019, Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program master gigmaker Ray Joe Hastings, with his apprentice Keith Whiteside, presented a gallery talk at the Museum of Art & Archaeology. They spoke about gigging and gigmkaing in conjunction with the 2019 exhibition "Missouri Nostalgia: Works on Paper from the Scruggs-Vandervoort-Barney Collection." Featured prominently in the exhibit was Howard Baer's watercolor on paper "Gigging, The Current River," a work the American artist produced for the Scruggs-Vandervoort-Barney "Heart of the Nation" collection of nearly 100 works of art depicting scenes from across the state of Missouri. Truly, very few contemporary Missourians could speak to the 1947 work of art, or the traditions of gigging and gigmaking as they continues along the Current River to this day.
