Meaning "water water," Mayim Mayim has been a solid staple of folk dance clubs since 1937. The energy it requires evokes smiles from its dancers holding hands in a circle. Several years ago a group of folk dancers in Silver City, NM, did this dance during a drought. Before we could complete it, a powerful rainstorm set off laughter all around as we rushed outside to bask in the welcome wetness. Burt Lancaster would have enjoyed that moment.
