MOST WANTED BMW M3 GTR 02

In 2001, the GTR version of the BMW M3 (E46) was produced in around ten examples exclusively to obtain the approval necessary to compete in the AMLS championship with a competition variant of the same. The latter, in order to be able to beat its Porsche rivals, was equipped with a new 4.0-liter V8 engine with a displacement of 500 HP (in the road version the engine was the same but detuned to 350 HP). The car was entrusted to the Schnizer Motorsport and PTG teams, who achieved class victories in 7 of the 10 ALMS races and thus won the title. Top speed was 295 km/h. The transmission was a six-speed manual and the differential was the same variable locking unit as used in the race car.

The M3 GTR gained a cult following in the gaming community after it appeared in the 2005 video game Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Road & Track, who collaborated on the first Need for Speed video game, described the game's custom M3 GTR as being "so iconic that fans still recreate the livery in real life". Once searched about the M3 GTR, nearly 85% of the results will relate the car to Need for Speed: Most Wanted.
