The Sound As Ever 90-99 label is excited to announce the release of Blues Into Gold, a 22 song CD and digital retrospective of the song of the late Gynia Favot.
All profits from the release of this compilation album will be donated to cancer research via Chris O'Brien Lifehouse at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
From the beautiful racket of Disneyfist, to the through the big muff infused rock and lo-fi pop of Half Miler and onto the shining pop gems of Modern Giant.
It’s a collection that showcases Gynia’s life through music. Completely remastered and featuring extensive liner notes from friends and bandmates, this really is a very special document.
One of Gyn’s final messages was “Don’t Forget Me, and there’s not better way we can think of to remember her, than through her music.
Blues Into Gold: The Songs of Gynia Favot, out soon on Sound As Ever 90-99 Records.
Excerpts from the liner notes:
Cooler Than Anyone
Gynia was way cooler than me. Gyn was cooler than anyone. Gynia didn’t look like the ‘90s; the ‘90s looked like her. She owned the room just by turning up. On stage, she just stood there, radiating coolth……
But what I am most grateful for it is that she also experienced the joy of Gyn’s humour, the warmth of her kindness, the wisdom of her patience, and was inspired by her, just as I will always be. Gynia was way more brave than me.
Gyn was braver than anyone.
Ailsa Weaver (Half Miler, Scratchergirl)
Our Little Rockstar, Ginetto
Gyn had all the trappings of a rockstar alright but she was “rockstar” without the pretence and attitude.
Quoting some fine lyrics from one of the poppiest of pop songs ‘Keep on Moving’, “In this minute, of this hour, could be the best one of your life”. ……….. it was obvious that looking back on those minutes that she spent playing music with her friends in front of her family were the best ones of her life.
Brendan Favot (Gynia’s brother)
I’ll Miss Her Forever
Brisbane gave us the Bee Gees, The Go Betweens, Ups & Downs, and Gynia Favot.
There’s a bit in the ‘Scrawl’ video when she looks over at where I’d be standing (I was always stage right at the Sando) and smiles at whatever stupid face I’m pulling. And it’s the most beautiful, gentle, knowing, unaffected thing. I return to it often. I was blessed to have Gyn a part of my life for so long. One of the last texts I got from her said “Don’t forget about me”. No chance of that darlin’, I’ll miss you forever.
Mark “Na-Na” Hyland (Disneyfist, Half Miler, Scratchergirl)
Never a Bad Word Spoken
It’s near impossible to separate who Gyn was as a person from the music she was involved in. Whether playing or writing songs, seeing other bands, or listening to tunes at home, it was what seemed to hold Gyn together, give meaning to everything.
And she was an amazing human – I can’t remember her speaking badly of anyone, and you always felt her warmth when you were around her.
When I listen to it all together, there’s deep sadness again at the loss of a beautiful friend, but also joy that there was something so great left behind to keep her close.
I hope others will hear something they haven’t heard before, or discover Gyn’s music for the first time, be drawn in, and in some way think of her and her time.

A Document of Our Lives
Obviously hearing her voice brings up many emotions; loss, sadness, and a general sense of missing one of my oldest friends, and all that entails. But I’ve also come to realise that with these songs, the memories of the writing, the rehearsing, the playing live, the touring, the times spent with friends creating something of worth are of deep strength and value … and that these songs represent all of that and more.
Time passes, dreams fade, and not all of us are left to tell the story.
For a very significant part of my life she was my bandmate, fellow traveller, co-creator, partner and flatmate. But most all … she was my friend. Gyn was beautiful, warm, funny and unique, and although her life was cut short I feel we’re at least lucky to have this document of young woman’s life lived through music. I hope you enjoy it. She’d certainly be completely chuffed to know it exists.
Simon Gibson (Disneyfist, Half Miler, Scratchergirl, Modern Giant)
