Witness Johan Stipp tells the court he feared the South African Olympic and Paralympic star, who is on trial for murder, might kill himself with the same gun

One of the first people on the scene after Oscar Pistorius shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp told a court on Thursday he feared the South African Olympic and Paralympic star, who is on trial for murder, might kill himself with the same gun.

The witness, Johan Stipp, was testifying in a Pretoria court on the fourth day of the double-amputee runner's murder trial.

"As I approached the lady there was a man on his knees on her left side," he told the court. "There wasn't any signs of life that I could see."

He said he feared Mr Pistorius may hurt himself after leaving Ms Steenkamp's body.
"I noticed that Oscar was going up the stairs and I asked Mr [Johan] Stander if he knew where the gun was," Mr Stipp added. "It was obvious that Oscar was emotionally very, very upset."

Mr Pistorius, a double-amputee runner who competed at the 2012 Olympics, is charged with murder with premeditation after shooting Ms Steenkamp through a toilet door.
Mr Pistorius claims the killing was accidental because he thought she was an intruder in his home.
