Kazi Nazrul Islam was contemporary to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, though both of them contributed differently. There are numerous aspects where both poets bear astonishing similarities in spite of both having a different style of expression.
Nazrul’s form of poetry got a new dimension for him – he was called ‘Bidrohi Kobi’, the Rebel Poet.
His music covered a broad genre as he wrote songs of patriotism, folk, poetic, and even numerous devotional songs based both on Hindu & Islamic religion.
A typical raga oriented song based on Taal Addha, ‘Pardeshi Megh Jao Re Phire’ is a song by poet Nazrul which expresses the feeling of a lonesome girl waiting for her beloved. The rendition of the song is by Dhiren Bose, a renowned singer who is recognized as one of the most popular Nazrul Sangeet exponents among the veterans in both the parts of Bengal. He is known for his beautiful & flawless renditions.

সৃজনশিল্পের আঙিনায় এঁদের আবির্ভাব ভিন্ন ভিন্ন সময় হলেও, কাজি নজরুল ইসলাম ও রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর যথার্থে একে অন্যের সমসাময়িক ছিলেন। দুজনের কাজের ধারায় পার্থক্য থাকলেও, প্রবাদপ্রতীম এই দুই বহুমুখী প্রতিভার সৃষ্টির মধ্যেও চমকপ্রদ মিল আছে।
লোকগান, কাব্যগীতি, দেশাত্মবোধক এমনকি হিন্দু এবং ইসলামী ভক্তিগীতিও তাঁর সমগ্র রচনার এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ ছিল।
আদ্ধা তালে এই রাগপ্রধান অঙ্গের ‘পরদেশী মেঘ যাও রে ফিরে’ গানটিতে ফুটে উঠেছে একাকিত্বের এক রূপক। গানটি গেয়েছেন প্রখ্যাত নজরুলগানের শিল্পী ধীরেন বসু, যিনি তাঁর দরাজ কন্ঠ এবং সুস্পষ্ট উচ্চারণে সঙ্গীত পরিবেশনের জন্য সুখ্যাত।
